Teen murder suspect breaks out of Louisiana jail again, just two weeks after his first escape

Seventeen-year-old David Atkins, charged with murder, escaped from the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center in Louisiana for the second time in two weeks. He fled alongside another 17-year-old murder suspect, Willie Jackson. This comes after Atkins had previously escaped with another 17-year-old, Jeremiah Green, following a fight at the facility. After the first escape, prosecutors had requested Atkins be transferred to a more secure facility, but their request was not ruled on before the second breakout. Atkins is accused of killing 28-year-old George Cotton in August 2021. The East Baton Rouge juvenile jail has had several violent incidents recently, including five detainees overpowering guards in October 2021 and a brawl involving eight boys in February 2022. Police warned the public that Atkins and Jackson were considered armed and dangerous following their escape. The manner in which Atkins and Jackson managed to escape the facility on Saturday night was not disclosed. This news comes amid a series of violent incidents at the East Baton Rouge juvenile jail in recent years.
