Springfield High School teacher Dianne Cothern has taken action to alleviate the financial burden on teachers by starting a Facebook group called “Clear the List for Teachers 2024.” The group aims to help teachers save money by allowing them to share wish lists for classroom supplies. The National Education Association reports that teachers spend an average of $500 to $750 of their own money on students’ needs each year.
Cothern’s group has quickly gained over 2,000 followers across the U.S., with members donating directly to teachers, as well as participating in giveaways. Teachers from various states have benefited from the support, no matter how small the donation. Cothern emphasizes that the donations make a significant impact on the classroom environment, creating a sense of belonging and comfort for students.
By providing teachers with much-needed supplies, Cothern believes that it can help students feel excited about the school year. The group continues to grow daily, with new members joining and contributing to the cause. Cothern encourages anyone interested in supporting teachers to reach out to her on Facebook for more information.
