National Fish & Wildlife Foundation grant awarded to Land Trust of Louisiana for preservation of longleaf pine ecosystem | Newest Updates

The National Fish & Wildlife Foundation has awarded a record-breaking $33.5 million in conservation grants from the Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund to organizations working to protect longleaf pine habitats. The Land Trust is one of the recipients, focusing on conserving longleaf pine habitat on private lands in southeast Louisiana. This region is home to many rare plant and animal species, including the federally-threatened gopher tortoise. The grant will support efforts in prescribed fire, reforestation, and invasive species control to restore these vital ecosystems. The Land Trust plans to target over 7,000 acres for restoration in St. Tammany, Washington, and Tangipahoa parishes.

The grant will enable the Land Trust to expand its capacity, including hiring new staff, to achieve the conservation goals set forth in the grant. The organization is grateful for the support from the National Fish & Wildlife Association, the Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund, and other partners. Their work is critical in protecting the lands, waters, wildlife, and ecosystems of Louisiana. Stay tuned for updates on their progress and ways to get involved in their efforts to #ProtectLouisiana.
