The Southeastern Louisiana University football team is gearing up for the upcoming season as they officially open preseason practice at Strawberry Stadium. The Lions will be practicing Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m. as part of fall camp, before transitioning to afternoon practices once the fall semester begins.
SLU was picked to finish third in the Southland Conference preseason poll, with a strong roster of both experienced players and talented newcomers. Quarterback Eli Sawyer, running back Harlan Dixon, and wide receiver Darius Lewis are among the top returning playmakers, while linebacker Donte’ Daniels and defensive back Coryell Pierce lead the defense.
Special teams will see the return of kicker Riley Callaghan and preseason All-American punt returner Lewis, with a replacement needed for the departing punter Austin Dunlap. The Lions will kick off their season with a game against Tulane on August 29.
Fans can get their tickets through the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office and are encouraged to join the Touchdown Club or the S Club to support the football program. The university also observes a clear bag policy for all ticketed events.
