The Southeastern Louisiana University Police Department has welcomed a new addition to their team in the form of K-9 Jula, a 2-year-old German shepherd from Poland specializing in explosives detection. This marks the first K-9 joining the force in the department’s new K-9 Division. Jula will work closely with Sergeant Michelle Blanchard, who underwent certification training in Texas.
The university officials have expressed their excitement about having Jula on board, stating that she will play a crucial role in safety sweeps for special events, sporting events, and emergency situations. President William Wainwright believes that Jula will serve as an ambassador of safety, student support, and overall officer training and development.
This new addition emphasizes the department’s commitment to enhancing campus safety and security. University leaders are hopeful that Jula’s presence will strengthen the police department’s capabilities, ultimately benefiting the students, faculty, and staff at Southeastern Louisiana University.
