Judge rules all 3 Louisiana Supreme Court candidates can stay in District 2 race, says Louisiana Illuminator

All three candidates for the Louisiana Supreme Court race in District 2 have been allowed to stay in the race, a judge has ruled. The decision comes after a challenge was brought against the candidacy of Judge Jefferson Hughes III, who is seeking reelection, based on allegations of residency issues. Judge William Morvant of the 19th Judicial District Court decided that Hughes, along with his challengers, Judge Zachary Blanchard and lawyer Richard Ducote, can all remain on the ballot.

The challenge against Hughes was filed by Blanchard’s campaign, which claimed that the incumbent judge did not meet the residency requirements to run for office in District 2. However, Judge Morvant ruled that there was not enough evidence to prove that Hughes was not a resident of the district, and therefore allowed all three candidates to continue in the race.

The decision comes as a relief for all three candidates, as the Louisiana Supreme Court race in District 2 is highly contested, with each candidate vying for a seat on the state’s highest court. With the ruling from Judge Morvant, the race will proceed with all three candidates, giving voters a competitive choice for their next Supreme Court justice.

The candidates will now continue their campaigns leading up to the election, where voters will ultimately decide who will fill the seat on the Louisiana Supreme Court in District 2. This ruling ensures that the race remains fair and open to all candidates, allowing for a democratic process to unfold in the upcoming election.
