Residents in the western region of Lipetsk in Russia have been ordered to evacuate following a reported “massive attack” by Ukrainian drones. Regional governor Igor Artamonov announced the evacuation on the Telegram messaging app, stating that Lipetsk had been targeted by a large UAV attack. Several explosions were reported, with damage to a local power facility and at least six people injured.
A fire also broke out at a military airfield outside the city of Lipetsk, prompting the evacuation of four villages in the area. Despite rumors circulating on social media, Artamonov clarified that only certain parts of Lipetsk were being evacuated and that claims of the entire city being emptied were false information spread by Ukraine as psychological warfare.
The attacks in Lipetsk come after Russia reported fierce battles in the Kursk region, where 1,000 Ukrainian troops launched a cross-border raid supported by tanks and armored vehicles. The Kursk assault is considered the most significant attack on Russian soil since the invasion of Ukraine earlier in the year.
There has been no official response from Kyiv regarding the situation in Lipetsk. The region lies approximately 460 kilometers south of Moscow and about 300 kilometers from Ukraine’s eastern border. The situation continues to develop as authorities work to secure the area and assess the damage caused by the reported attacks.
