The 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games are coming to a close with a celebration of French artists and their influence on music. Indie rock band Phoenix kicked off the closing ceremony with performances of their hits “Lisztomania,” “If I Ever Feel Better,” and “1901.” They were joined on stage by Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Cambodian rapper VannDa, and French electronic artist Kavinsky. Another French band, Air, known for their work in the French Touch subgenre of house music, also performed during the ceremony. Los Angeles native Snoop Dogg, who has been a prominent figure at this year’s Games, will be part of the host city handover between Paris and Los Angeles, where the Olympics will be held in 2028. Paris Mayor will pass the Olympic flag to Los Angeles Mayor to symbolize the transition. R&B artist H.E.R. from California is expected to sing the U.S. national anthem at the ceremony, and other Los Angeles-based artists like Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will also be part of the closing celebration.
