Former President Bill Clinton and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will headline the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night, with Clinton giving his 11th convention speech before Walz officially accepts the party’s nomination for vice-president. Clinton is known for his passionate speeches at past conventions, including his criticism of Donald Trump in 2020 and his endorsement of Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Walz, who seeks to build on the enthusiasm surrounding his campaign with Kamala Harris, will have the opportunity to introduce himself to a wider audience of voters during his speech. The theme of Wednesday’s speeches is “A Fight for Our Freedoms”, in line with Harris’ messaging about protecting fundamental freedoms. Walz may highlight his efforts to protect abortion rights and voting rights during his tenure as governor.
In addition to Clinton and Walz, other notable speakers during Wednesday’s programming will include Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Amanda Gorman. The convention will be livestreamed on various platforms, with major news networks likely to carry prime-time programming.
The convention has already featured speeches from Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with a focus on electing Kamala Harris to protect American democracy. Barack and Michelle Obama gave endorsements of Harris on Tuesday night, with Barack stating that America is ready for a President Kamala Harris. Vice-President Kamala Harris will close out the convention on Thursday night.
