Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to deliver a campaign speech in Phoenix, addressing the path forward for his 2024 election bid. His running mate, Nicole Shanahan, recently stated that the campaign is considering two options: either staying in the race and challenging Harris-Walz presidency or dropping out to support Donald Trump. Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, revealed that there has been ongoing communication between Kennedy’s campaign and Trump’s team. Vance emphasized that Kennedy’s values align more with the current Republican Party than the Democratic Party.
Despite facing challenges such as allegations of misconduct, financial troubles, and ballot access issues in certain states, Kennedy continues to campaign. Trump has expressed support for Kennedy potentially joining his administration if elected, but Vance clarified that this does not guarantee a Cabinet position for Kennedy. Their meeting during the Republican convention in Milwaukee signaled a potential partnership.
Kennedy’s campaign has been relatively quiet in recent weeks, with minimal public events and a decline in public polling standing. The campaign also closed July with significant debt, and Shanahan, who has been funding the campaign, received a refund of almost $1 million. Despite these setbacks, Kennedy remains committed to his presidential bid and will address supporters in Phoenix on Friday to outline his next steps in the 2024 election.
