A Texas man, Miguel Alejandro Pastran Hernandez, kidnapped a ride-share driver at gunpoint in Arlington, Texas, and forced the driver to drive over 1,000 miles to South Florida. Pastran Hernandez threatened the driver with a gun and ordered them to drive to Florida, passing through multiple states. The driver was also forced to call their children and pretend they were on a work trip. Pastran Hernandez noticed the driver had a gun and took it from them. They arrived in Florida where Pastran Hernandez planned to kidnap a second victim for ransom. However, the driver managed to escape while at a store in Hialeah. Pastran Hernandez was later arrested with a loaded gun in his possession. He appeared in federal court on charges of kidnapping, carjacking, and possessing a firearm in a violent crime. His pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Monday, and an arraignment hearing is set for September 3. Pastran Hernandez’s public defender did not respond to a request for comment. The incident highlights the dangers ride-share drivers can face and the importance of safety precautions for both drivers and passengers.
