Steve Serio and Nicky Nieves selected as Team USA flag bearers for 2024 Paralympic Games

Wheelchair basketball star Steve Serio and sitting volleyball player Nicky Nieves have been chosen as the flag bearers for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. Serio, who has competed in four Paralympic Games and won two gold medals and one bronze, will be participating in his fifth Games. Nieves, a gold medalist from the 2016 Rio Paralympics, was born without a left hand and has been playing volleyball since the sixth grade.

The opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games will take place on Aug. 28 at the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées, marking the first time it will not be held in a stadium. Over 4,000 athletes from around the world will compete in 22 different sports during the games, which will run until Sept. 8.

USA Network and Peacock will provide coverage of the opening ceremony, starting with a one-hour pre-show at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the arrival of the flag bearers at 2 p.m. ET. The full schedule of events can be found on the Olympics website.

Both Serio and Nieves have overcome challenges in their lives to become elite athletes and represent Team USA on the international stage. Their selection as flag bearers is a testament to their dedication and perseverance in the sport of Paralympic athletics.
