At least two people were killed after a missile struck a civilian building in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, on Monday night. The attack was part of a series of Russian bombardments that hit multiple regions, including Kyiv, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy called on western allies to provide more air defence support and lift restrictions on using western weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.
In response to the attacks, Ukraine activated air defence systems and reported intercepting a significant number of missiles and drones launched by Russia. The Russian military confirmed that they targeted energy facilities in Ukraine, claiming they were aiding the country’s military production complex.
US President Joe Biden condemned the attack on Ukraine, calling it “outrageous”. NATO member Poland reported a Russian drone violating its airspace during the Russian barrage against Ukraine.
The situation escalated further when one person died and six were injured in a fire at an oil refinery in Siberia, with rumors that Ukraine might be behind the attack. Meanwhile, journalist Ivan Lyubysh-Kirdey remained in critical condition after a missile strike on a hotel in Kramatorsk, with one of his colleagues tragically killed.
Amidst the ongoing conflict, Russia was notably absent during a meeting in Geneva commemorating the Geneva conventions, meant to limit the brutality of war. The situation remains critical as both sides continue to engage in military operations with casualties on all sides.
