Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has stated that Hezbollah will continue to “pay an increasing price” as Israel intensifies its attacks on southern Lebanon. This comes after Hezbollah promised retaliation for recent device attacks against its members in Lebanon and Syria. Israeli warplanes targeted several towns in southern Lebanon, causing some of the most intense bombing since the war in Gaza began in October. The Israeli military claimed to have struck “approximately 30 Hezbollah launchers” in the area of Naqoura, though casualties were not immediately confirmed.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed to continue operations against Israel until the aggression on Gaza stops, following a series of device explosions that killed 37 people and wounded nearly 3,000 over two days. Nasrallah accused Israel of crossing “all red lines” and stated that the group would retaliate. Hamas expressed appreciation for Hezbollah’s support and criticized Israel’s attempts to undermine the support for Gaza.
The White House has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while also reaffirming its opposition to any Iran-backed threats. A preliminary investigation by Lebanese authorities found that the devices used in the attacks were implanted with explosives before arriving in the country and were detonated via electronic messages. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has escalated in recent months following the deaths of key figures on both sides, raising fears of further escalation in the region.
