Olivia Nuzzi, a prominent political writer, was granted a protective order against her ex-fiancé, Ryan Lizza, after accusing him of harassment and blackmail. Nuzzi was put on leave from New York Magazine last month due to her ties to fringe presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Nuzzi admitted to a “personal relationship” with Kennedy, which she said was never physical but should have been disclosed to avoid the appearance of conflict. She accused Lizza of organizing a campaign to ruin her reputation following their breakup. Nuzzi claimed Lizza hacked her devices for surveillance and blackmail purposes. He allegedly threatened to make personal information public to damage her career. Nuzzi also accused Lizza of making threats of physical violence to force her into assuming his share of financial responsibility in a joint book deal. Lizza denied the allegations and stated that Nuzzi was trying to divert attention from her personal and professional issues. Kennedy, known for his anti-vaccine advocacy and conspiracy theories, dropped out of the presidential race in August and endorsed Donald Trump. Nuzzi’s relationship with Kennedy was highlighted in a piece she wrote last year on Kennedy’s White House bid. Lizza, a former correspondent for The New Yorker, had been previously fired over allegations of sexual misconduct. Nuzzi and Lizza were unable to be reached for comment, and the protective order against Lizza will stand until a hearing on October 15th.
