Republican Sen. Rick Scott is set to spend approximately $10 million on new TV ads in the final stretch of the Florida Senate race against Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. The ads will focus on key media markets in Tampa, Orlando, and Miami. Despite being outspent, Mucarsel-Powell is receiving national support from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The committee has pledged a “multi-million” effort to help her win, although specific figures have not been disclosed.
Scott, who has a significant cash advantage, has spent $8 million of his personal wealth on the campaign. His campaign has spent a total of $20 million, while Mucarsel-Powell had spent only as much by the end of July. Despite national support for Democrats in the race, Scott remains confident in his chances of winning, as public polling has generally had him leading, though not by significant margins.
Scott has avoided debating Mucarsel-Powell and has focused on painting her as an “open borders socialist.” He has maintained a consistent lead in polls, with recent polling showing him ahead by 8 points. Scott’s campaign adviser is confident in their chances of victory, regardless of any additional national funding for Democrats.
The race in Florida has not attracted significant national attention, but Democrats are working hard to paint Scott as vulnerable. Mucarsel-Powell has criticized Scott for his policies during his time in office, while Scott has presented himself as a strong incumbent. Despite the national support for Democrats, Scott’s campaign remains optimistic about their chances of winning.
