French football star Paul Pogba’s doping suspension has been reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) from an initial four years. Pogba, who plays for Juventus, was suspended by Italy’s anti-doping organization in September 2023 after testing positive for a banned substance, DHEA.
The 31-year-old denied any wrongdoing and stated he would appeal the decision. The tribunal found that Pogba had taken a nutritional supplement prescribed by a doctor, which led to the positive test results. Pogba’s agent emphasized that the player had never intended to break any rules.
After the decision was announced, Pogba shared on social media a picture of himself wearing football boots and personalized socks with the French flag and two stars symbolizing the country’s World Cup wins. He expressed relief that the ordeal has come to an end and looks forward to returning to pursuing his dreams on the field.
Pogba emphasized that the past months have been distressing, as his career was put on hold. He maintained that he had never knowingly violated anti-doping regulations and that the supplement he took did not enhance his performance. The player plans to share his full story once he is free of legal restrictions.
