Jeff Sharp, a former detective with the Seattle Police Department’s gang unit, once struggled to understand addiction until his daughter Bailey’s involvement in a murder plot changed his perspective. Bailey, who was dealing with addiction issues, participated in a murder plot that led to her own brutal death, along with the murder of Justin Hilbert. Bailey’s boyfriend, former Navy sailor Jared Bischoff, and another man were convicted of both murders and sentenced to life in prison.
Bailey’s parents, Jeff and Ericka, are speaking out for the first time to raise awareness about addiction and mental health struggles. Bailey’s spiral into addiction began with health problems, leading her from marijuana and pain pills to heroin. Despite efforts to keep her away from her drug connections, Bailey’s addiction continued to escalate.
Bailey’s involvement in the murder plot stemmed from a desire to help Bischoff, who was jealous and enraged over his ex-wife’s new relationship. The conspiracy aimed at killing the ex-wife for the life insurance payout ended in two grisly deaths. Bailey was ultimately killed by Bischoff in what was claimed to be self-defense.
The Sharps attended part of Bischoff’s trial, grappling with the complicated realization that Bailey played a role in the murders. Despite understanding Bailey’s involvement, they are determined to raise awareness about addiction and mental health challenges to combat the shame and stigma associated with it. The tragic events surrounding Bailey’s spiral into addiction and eventual involvement in a murder plot have left her family grappling with the devastating consequences of untreated addiction and mental health issues.
