ULM Warhawks Fall in Game 1 in Jonesboro

traveled to Jonesboro on Wednesday to face off against the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Game 1 of their three-game series. The Warhawks were unable to secure a victory, falling to the Red Wolves with a final score of 4-2.

The game started off strong for the Warhawks, with pitcher Tyler Lien taking the mound and holding the Red Wolves scoreless through the first three innings. However, Arkansas State was able to break through in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off of Lien. Despite a late rally by the Warhawks in the seventh inning, they were unable to overcome the deficit.

Offensively, ULM struggled to get things going against the Red Wolves’ pitching staff. They were only able to muster two runs off of five hits, with junior outfielder Colby Deaville leading the way with a solo home run in the sixth inning.

On the defensive side, the Warhawks were solid, making some key plays to keep the Red Wolves from extending their lead. Freshman pitcher Carter Rumsey also provided a strong performance in relief, allowing only one run in three innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Warhawks are looking to bounce back in Game 2 and Game 3 of the series. Head coach Michael Federico expressed confidence in his team’s ability to regroup and come out strong in the remaining games.

The Warhawks will take on the Red Wolves again on Thursday for Game 2 of the series, where they will look to even the score and secure a victory. The team remains optimistic about their chances and is determined to turn things around after the tough loss in Game 1.
