Local nonprofit Hunger Busters will be hosting their sixth annual “Meet the Chefs” fundraising event on November 2nd at The Empire Room in Dallas. The event will feature food created by notable chefs who have been featured on the Food Network and who curate menus for celebrities, with WFAA/Channel 8 journalist Erin Hunter serving as emcee. Celebrity chefs such as Manwell “Hoppie” McLean, Nina Sagoo, and Derricka Clayton will be showcasing their culinary skills, and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a multicourse dinner by the end of the evening.
Tickets for the event are priced at $250, with sponsorship opportunities also available. The evening will include live music, a silent auction, and networking opportunities with influential community and business leaders. The event aims to increase awareness of hunger and poverty issues in children throughout Dallas, with proceeds supporting Hunger Busters’ programs and initiatives. The nonprofit delivers 3,500 meals a day to students and over 350,000 a year, with plans to increase this to 14,500 meals daily.
Founded in 2012, Hunger Busters focuses on providing nutritious meals to food insecure students within Dallas ISD. Through their Food Rescue program, volunteers gather excess food from local restaurants and grocery stores to prepare and deliver meals to afterschool programs. The nonprofit aims to address food insecurity in low-income communities and ensure that all children have access to fresh and healthy meals, promoting social equity and the opportunity for every child to thrive and succeed.
