Who are the candidates in the 2024 fourth congressional district race in Louisiana?

Louisiana residents in the U.S. House District 4 will have an important decision to make on Nov. 5 as they vote in the upcoming election. Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the state to use a congressional map that includes a second majority Black district, in response to the state’s population being one-third Black but having only one majority-Black district in the previous map.

The new map faced legal challenges, but eventually the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay order requiring it to be used in the 2024 election cycle. The fourth congressional district includes several parishes in Louisiana, while a portion of other parishes fall under the fifth congressional district.

In the upcoming election, voters will have a choice between Mike Johnson (R), the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives who supports limited government and free markets, and Joshua Morott (R), a Vernon Parish native who is a long-term substitute teacher with campaign focuses on abolishing the Department of Education and stopping foreign aid until America takes care of its own.

For more information on voting or to view a sample ballot, residents can visit the Secretary of State’s website. It is important for Louisiana voters to be informed and participate in the upcoming election to have their voices heard.
