Ed Tech Startup L3C Utilizes Technology and Gamification to Extend its Audience

Brooke McKean and Jeffery Beckham Jr., former president and CEO of Chicago Scholars, have launched a new venture called REACH Pathways aimed at providing college and career resources to high-performing under-resourced students. The app, which combines AI, Tik Tok-inspired videos, and gamification, offers step-by-step pathways tailored to students’ goals. Users can complete quests to access resources and next steps, earning ‘gems’ as they progress.

The app also features a resume builder, job and internship applications, and soft skill training. Companies pay a licensing fee to post jobs, while colleges pay a subscription fee for student access. Since its launch in 2021, the app has gained 1,000 users.

Future plans for REACH Pathways include expanding mentorship opportunities, adding more ways to earn and redeem gems, and creating customized pathways for specific industries with employer input. McKean and Beckham believe their connection to Chicago Scholars gives them a unique advantage in the edtech market, as they can leverage 30 years of research-based curriculum to reach students nationwide.

The app’s success lies in its innovative approach to providing personalized guidance and resources to under-resourced students, ultimately helping them achieve their college and career goals. With a focus on scalability and social impact, REACH Pathways is poised to make a significant difference in the education technology space.
