Salmonella concerns prompt recall of organic eggs at Costco

Approximately 10,800 retail units of organic eggs sold at Costco are being recalled over concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella. The affected cartons, sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand, were distributed in 25 Costco stores in five states. The recall only applies to units with Julian code 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025. The recall was initiated after Handsome Brook Farms, the New York-based company that produces the eggs, discovered that some eggs were mistakenly packaged in retail packaging instead of being designated for stores. There have been no reports of illness related to the affected eggs, and the recall is being carried out in cooperation with the FDA. Consumers who have purchased the recalled eggs should stop consuming them and return them to their local Costco store for a full refund, or dispose of the products. Handsome Brook Farms is implementing additional supply chain controls and retraining to prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future.
