The search for missing Pennsylvania grandmother Elizabeth Pollard, who fell through a sinkhole while looking for her cat, ended tragically when her body was found about 30 feet below the surface. Pollard was last seen in Unity Township before falling into a decades-old mine shaft. The search shifted from a rescue to a recovery mission, and after more than 80 hours of work by searchers, Pollard’s body was found and recovered. Her family expressed gratitude that she was brought home. Pollard had been reported missing after her car was found parked with her granddaughter still inside but in good condition. Engineers will now work to secure the area to prevent future sinkholes. Authorities warned residents to be cautious of sinkholes in the area due to abandoned mines. Unity Township Supervisor Mike O’Barto expressed hope that such a tragedy would not happen again in the future.
