Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., and her family were targeted by a bomb threat, prompting a response from local police, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the Massachusetts State Police. The threat was received via email, leading authorities to search Trahan’s home, but no device was found. The Massachusetts State Police spokesperson noted that the threat appeared to be part of a series of unfounded threats against political figures across the country. This incident follows a string of bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting members of Congress and President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks. Last week, several Democratic lawmakers in New England, including Rep. Seth Moulton, also received bomb threats. The Capitol Police reported an increase in cases involving threats against lawmakers in recent years, with more than 8,000 investigated in 2023. As of now, there appears to be no ongoing threat to public safety in Trahan’s case. Rep. Trahan emphasized that threats of violence and intimidation have no place in the country, calling for a rejection of such behavior. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to ensure the safety of Trahan and her family.
