Staunton City Introduces ‘Recite Me’ Technology to Enhance Accessibility

The City of Staunton has introduced a new technology called “Recite Me” on its website to assist people with disabilities and non-English speakers in accessing resources. This application allows users to customize the website by changing the font size, using a magnifying glass, and translating the content into different languages. AnhThu Nguyen, chair of Staunton’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission, emphasized the importance of making information on the website accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or language proficiency. The goal is to bridge gaps in equity among residents of the Queen City by ensuring that all individuals can easily access the resources they need. The “Recite Me” program can be accessed through an icon at the bottom left of the website, which opens a new toolbar with various accessibility options. By implementing this technology, the City of Staunton is taking a proactive step towards creating a more inclusive and accessible online environment for all users.
