Volunteers from various organizations, including the New Orleans Saints, recently came together to help with the recycling of oyster shells in Violet. The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana enlisted the help of the Super Bowl host committee, NFL Green, Force Blue, Chefs Brigade, and students from St. Bernard Parish to move stacks of 30 lbs. bags of oyster shells. These shells will be used to build a living reef in lower Lafourche Parish.
The volunteers formed a human chain to efficiently move the bags of shells, showcasing teamwork and dedication to environmental conservation. The event took place on Friday, December 6, 2024, and was captured by photographer Chris Granger of The Times-Picayune. This collaborative effort demonstrates the commitment of the community to preserving the coastal environment and supporting important restoration projects.
