Marshall quarterback Braylon Braxton led the Thundering Herd to their first Sun Belt Conference championship win in program history with a dominating 31-3 victory over Louisiana Lafayette. Braxton showcased his dual-threat capacity by throwing for 2 touchdowns and running for 66 yards, earning him the title of Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and game MVP. The Herd’s defense also played a critical role in limiting the Ragin’ Cajuns to just 256 total yards and 11 first downs.
The win gave Marshall a 10-3 record and their seventh straight victory, securing their spot in an upcoming bowl game. Head coach Charles Huff’s future with the team remains uncertain as he is in the last year of his contract. Jordan Houston’s standout performance with 117 rushing yards and a touchdown also contributed to the team’s success. The victory marked Marshall’s first conference title in 10 years and fourth overall since the program’s restart in 1971 after a tragic plane crash.
