Beauregard Electric Co-Op (BECi) has formally filed an application with the Louisiana Public Service Commission to approve a rate increase, which could potentially raise monthly bills for their 44,000 customers in seven parishes in Southwest Louisiana. The last rate increase was back in 2013. BECi believes a 7% increase is necessary to ensure reliable service and quality customer support. District No. 4 Public Service Commissioner Mike Francis supports the increase, stating that the co-op has been doing a good job. Those interested in intervening in the process must do so by Feb. 3 by contacting the PSC. If intervention is not filed, citizens will only be able to speak on the issue at the Business and Executive Session where a vote will be held on the request. BECi management maintains that the proposed cost increase is fair and necessary, leading to just and reasonable rates. The commission is currently reviewing the investigation and will schedule a hearing process once interventions are filed.
