Years later, he seeks closure after his father disappears while working for convicted killer Sante Kimes

Ken Holmgren received a chilling phone call from his father, Elmer Holmgren, in February 1991. His father warned him that if he didn’t hear from him in a few days, he should contact the ATF. Ken didn’t know that Elmer was working for a wealthy couple, Kenneth and Sante Kimes, with a criminal history. Elmer disappeared soon after, and Sante and her son Kenny were eventually convicted for murder. Ken was frustrated with the lack of investigation into his father’s disappearance, especially since he was cooperating with the ATF against the Kimes. The ATF declined to comment on the case.

The Kimes family lived a luxurious life with multiple properties, including one in Honolulu that was suspected to have been intentionally set on fire in 1990. Elmer Holmgren was involved in the suspected arson and went missing while in protective custody. Authorities lost track of him, and the case remains unsolved. Kenny Kimes Jr., who was a teenager at the time of the fire, is serving a life sentence for other crimes.

The ATF was unable to provide information on the suspected arson due to evidence being destroyed during the 9/11 attacks. Sante Kimes died in prison in 2014, and Kenneth Kimes Sr. passed away in 1994. Despite suspicions, they were never charged in connection with the fire. The case of Elmer Holmgren’s disappearance remains a mystery, leaving Ken Holmgren frustrated with the lack of answers and justice.
