An electrical fire at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum in Natchitoches caused minor damage on Sunday morning. The fire was located in a database station on the south wall of the museum and was quickly contained by the sprinkler system. The Natchitoches Fire Department responded promptly and extinguished the blaze in the Hall of Fame gallery.
The fire caused destruction to a portion of the Hall of Fame’s Wall of Honor and smoke damage to the entire display. Water damage was reported near the “Showtime” exhibit, while permanent exhibits enclosed in glass cases remained largely unaffected. Notable memorabilia in a display case, including football jerseys worn by the Mannings and other sports legends, may have sustained significant water or smoke damage.
Fortunately, the nearby Cane River Creole Heritage Diaspora exhibit in the Atmos Energy Gallery was unaffected apart from some water on the floor at its entrance. The museum will remain closed indefinitely as state museum staff assess the damage and begin rehabilitation efforts. Updates on the museum’s reopening and upcoming events will be announced in the coming week.
