Are Your Lifestyle Choices Putting You at Risk for Pancreatic Cancer on World Cancer Day 2025?

Pancreatic cancer is a deadly form of cancer that can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, chronic pancreatitis, and diabetes can increase the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Dr. Ronak Tate, a consultant-gastroenterology at Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, emphasizes the importance of making healthy food choices, regular exercise, and avoiding harmful habits to reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer.

In its late stages, pancreatic cancer can exhibit symptoms such as loss of appetite, weight loss, abdominal pain, jaundice, and the onset of diabetes. Changes in the gut microbiome can also affect the development and progression of pancreatic cancer. Research shows that a Western diet high in carbohydrates and fats can upset the gut microbiome, leading to an increased risk of cancerous mutations in pancreatic cells.

While researchers have made progress in finding a cure for pancreatic cancer, the survival rate at advanced stages remains low. Prevention is key in avoiding pancreatic cancer, and incorporating low-glycemic foods, regular exercise, and avoiding alcohol and smoking can help reduce the risk. Dr. Tate advises incorporating nutritious foods like green leafy vegetables, seafood, salads, and fruits into the daily diet to prevent the formation of cancer cells.

By being proactive about leading a healthy lifestyle, individuals can reduce their risk of developing pancreatic cancer and improve their overall well-being. Stay informed about the latest updates on health and cancer prevention by subscribing to our newsletter today.
