The New Orleans Saints and LHSAA Working Towards Approving Girls Flag Football in Louisiana


The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) is set to vote on the formal approval of girls high school flag football after receiving overwhelming interest from over 100 of 157 member schools in the state. The move comes after the Saints and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) announced the sanctioning of girls high school flag football. Saints Owner Gayle Benson expressed excitement at the growth of opportunities for girls to compete in the sport. The NFL Vice President of flag football also praised the partnership between the Saints, LHSAA, and MHSAA, highlighting the increasing opportunities for girls to participate in the sport at the high school level. The Louisiana High School Coaches Association Director shared their anticipation at seeing girls participate in the fast-growing sport. Additionally, flag football will be included in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games program, further establishing its status as a globally recognized sport. The LHSAA is set to finalize the approval at their April Executive Committee meeting, showcasing their commitment to expanding opportunities for female athletes in Louisiana.
