New Orleans Gears Up for Super Bowl 59, the City’s Most Anticipated Weekend of the Year

New Orleans is gearing up for Super Bowl 59, expecting an influx of visitors and a presidential visit as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome. Local businesses are prepared for the surge in demand, with hotel rooms in high demand, selling for an average of $650 per night. Caesars is at the center of the action, as the only casino in New Orleans and the owner of the naming rights to the stadium hosting the game.

As fans from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kansas, and Missouri scramble to find lodging, demand for hotel rooms has surged 637%, according to Tripadvisor. The game comes on the heels of a New Year’s Day attack in the French Quarter that claimed 14 lives, prompting heightened security measures. State and city police, as well as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will be out in force, with over 700 Homeland Security officials expected to be on the ground.

Despite the security concerns, NFL officials are confident in their safety measures, with the league’s chief security officer Cathy Lanier asserting that New Orleans will be one of the safest places in the country during the weekend of the game. In response to the attack, the NFL has increased its safety resources and feels well-prepared for the event. With President Donald Trump also potentially attending the game, security measures will be further intensified to ensure the safety of all attendees.
