Tencent Holdings is testing the integration of DeepSeek’s service on Weixin, China’s popular super app. This move is part of Tencent’s strategy to leverage artificial intelligence to enhance its range of services, from social networking to e-payments and ride-hailing.
In the current beta test, users can access DeepSeek by clicking on the “AI Search” option on the search bar within Weixin, alongside Tencent’s Hunyuan foundational model. This feature is not yet available on WeChat, the international version of the app. Users can access the full version of the DeepSeek-R1 model for free, offering a more diverse search experience.
DeepSeek-R1, released by the Hangzhou-based start-up, has garnered attention for its capabilities comparable to advanced AI models from other tech giants but with lower training costs. The integration of DeepSeek into Weixin would provide AI capabilities to its 1.3 billion active users, who use the super app for various activities including chatting, sharing documents, watching videos, sending money, and shopping.
The potential integration of DeepSeek into Weixin demonstrates Tencent’s commitment to utilizing AI to enhance user experience and provide innovative services. As the popularity of super apps continues to grow, the integration of AI technologies like DeepSeek could further solidify Weixin’s position as a leading platform for diverse digital services.
