The 2025 Red Snapper season for private recreational and state charter vessels will begin on May 1, 2025, in state and federal waters with a daily bag limit of four fish and a minimum length of 16 inches. The season will continue until Louisiana’s annual allocation of 894,955 pounds is reached, monitored weekly by LA Creel. Anglers must have valid Louisiana fishing licenses and a Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) to fish for Red Snapper. State for-hire captains need a Charter Recreational Offshore Landing Permit. Federal for-hire vessels must follow federal regulations and may only fish during federally established seasons. All anglers must participate in LA Creel surveys to track harvest. LDWF encourages the use of descending devices to reduce barotrauma when releasing fish. For more information, visit the LDWF website or FAQs. The goal is to provide anglers with increased fishing opportunities and a successful Red Snapper season.
