Candidates announced for Louisiana Senate special election | Local Politics

Three candidates each are vying for two open seats in the Louisiana Senate ahead of the Feb. 15 special election. In Baton Rouge’s District 14, voters will choose among three Black Democrats: state Rep. Larry Selders, social worker Carolyn Hill, and graphic designer Quentin Anthony Anderson. In Lafayette’s District 23, voters will select from Republican State Rep. Brach Myers, Broussard City Councilman Jesse Regan, and Democrat Kristopher Harrison. The vacancies were created after two state senators won other political offices in November.

Selders, a social worker, runs Focused Family Services and owns Selders Development Group. Hill works for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and owns a political consulting firm. Anderson owns Anderson Creative and is involved in social justice efforts. Myers is a senior VP at LHC Group, while Regan works as a mortgage lender and developer. Harrison, originally unaffiliated, is now running as a Democrat and works as a cashier.

The primary election will take place on Feb. 15, with a runoff scheduled for March 29 if no candidate secures a majority. The District 14 seat covers downtown Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, while District 23 includes parts of Lafayette and neighboring towns. The outcome of these special elections will determine the new Senators to represent these districts in the Louisiana Legislature.
