Chiefs release wide receiver Xavier Worthy following decision by Texas DA to not press charges

Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after charges of felony domestic violence were dropped by the Williamson County District Attorney in Texas. Worthy was accused of assault on a family member in which their breath was impeded. His attorneys stated that the allegation was made by a woman who had been asked to leave Worthy’s home due to infidelity issues. The lawyers claimed she made extortive efforts before accusing Worthy. The Chiefs are still investigating the situation.

Worthy was drafted by the Chiefs in 2023 and had a successful rookie season, setting records and becoming a key player for the team. He played well in the Super Bowl, catching all eight of his targets for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Worthy’s performance was particularly important due to the absence of Rashee Rice, who suffered a season-ending injury. Rice, another wide receiver, was involved in a high-speed car crash in March 2024 and is facing civil lawsuits and criminal charges.

Overall, Worthy’s legal situation has resolved with no charges being pursued, allowing him to continue his career with the Chiefs. On the other hand, Rice’s off-field issues are ongoing, affecting his availability to play, despite his promising start in the NFL.
