Louisiana American Legion Department to Host Conference and Blood Drive


American Legion Post 179 in Sulphur, Louisiana recently hosted an annual conference with veterans from various American Legion posts across the state in attendance. The conference focused on ways to get new veterans involved in the program, with a particular emphasis on combatting the alarming veteran suicide rate.

Commander Angela Gomon stressed the importance of veterans finding a sense of purpose and community through organizations like the American Legion. Lifeshare Blood Services also provided a mobile blood bank for veterans interested in donating after the conference.

The American Legion Department of Louisiana organizes various events throughout the state, including blood drives, food truck events, and educational programs for children. The organization is currently preparing for their children’s state program, where kids will learn about state politics and leadership skills.

With six districts across the state, the American Legion of Louisiana is actively seeking new members to join their ranks and participate in their community-focused initiatives.
