Man in Memphis claims he was shot by his own dog while resting in bed

A man in Memphis sustained a gunshot wound when his dog accidentally fired a gun by jumping on a bed. The incident occurred in the Frayser neighborhood just before 4 a.m. on Monday. The man was lying on his bed with a friend when his pit bull puppy named Oreo jumped onto the bed and its paw got stuck in the gun’s trigger guard. The gun went off, grazing the man in his left thigh. The man’s friend left the home with the gun after it went off. The victim was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition. Shell casings were found on the floor of the front room. Tennessee does not have laws requiring firearm owners to lock their weapons or store them in a certain way, but the Memphis Police Department encourages gun owners to keep their weapons locked at home and offers free gun locks at precincts.
