In a historic turn of events, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has turned over a significant amount of tax collection money to the county treasurer. The sheriff handed over $14,304.84 of 1924 taxes and $18,159.42 of 1923 taxes that have been collected since the beginning of the year. Delinquent taxes for 1924 are set to be due after April 5.
Meanwhile, the owner of the Pilot Butte Inn, Philip R. Brooks, has announced plans for the immediate construction of a new wing to the inn. The addition, designed by local architect Hugh Thompson, will feature 36 guest rooms with modern amenities, including steam heat and telephones. The new building will follow the Swiss chalet style of the original structure and is expected to be completed by June 1.
