Thibodaux Man Cited for Oyster and Wildlife Violations in Terrebonne Parish

Van Tran, a 69-year-old man from Thibodaux, was cited by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement agents for alleged oyster and Wildlife Management Area (WMA) violations in Terrebonne Parish on March 21. Tran was caught illegally harvesting oysters on the Pointe-Aux-Chenes WMA, which prohibits oyster harvesting, and also for taking oysters from a polluted area.

Agents discovered Tran actively fishing off Island Road when they conducted a license and compliance inspection. Tran was found in possession of oysters, which were seized and returned to the water. Taking oysters from a polluted area carries a fine of $900 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail, while illegally harvesting oysters on a WMA can result in a fine of up to $350.

The agents involved in the case are Senior Agent Austin Anderson, Senior Agent Troy Autin, and Senior Agent Cody Salpietra. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries continues to enforce regulations to protect the environment and wildlife in the state.
