Tax day is quickly approaching on Tuesday, April 15th, and for those who still need to file their taxes, there are options available to do so for free. While Louisiana is not part of the Direct File program with the IRS, there are eight programs offered by the IRS that allow for free tax filing, including FreeTaxUSA. Additionally, H&R Block and Turbo Tax offer free versions of their online tools for those with income caps. For those who prefer in-person help, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program has partnered with United Way of Southeast Louisiana to provide free tax help for individuals earning less than $64,000 per year, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, or those who speak limited English. Sites are open across the viewing area this weekend for those in need of assistance. Download the WWL-TV News app for breaking news updates and to stay informed about tax filing options.
