Legendary football coach Nick Saban will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on June 28 in Natchitoches, as announced by LSU football. Saban, who coached LSU from 2000-04, won his first national championship with the Tigers in 2003. During his time at LSU, Saban’s coaching prowess led to two SEC Championships and an overall record of 48-16.
Saban, who went on to achieve even more success at Alabama, winning six national titles, is also the first coach to win a national championship with two different FBS schools since the inception of the AP poll in 1936. Recently retired from coaching after the 2023 season, Saban has left a lasting legacy in college football.
Originally elected into the Louisiana Hall of Fame class of 2020, Saban’s induction was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, alongside 11 other inductees, including individuals he worked with at LSU, Saban will finally be honored for his outstanding contributions to the sport.
With a career record of 292-71-1, seven national championships, and 11 SEC Championships, Saban’s accomplishments on the field speak for themselves. In addition to his coaching success, Saban has shown his commitment to the game by staying involved as an analyst on ESPN’s College GameDay and advocating for NIL rights in college sports.
Despite his retirement from coaching, Saban continues to make an impact on the sport and will now be forever enshrined in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame as a testament to his greatness and lasting legacy in college football.
