Bulldogs Dominate Panthers in 5-2 Victory


Louisiana Tech softball outhit Florida International but fell to the Panthers with a score of 5-2. The Bulldogs had three players with multiple hits, including Reagan Marchant who hit a solo home run and a double that drove in a run. Laney Johnson started in the circle and pitched 3.0 scoreless innings before allowing five runs. Allie Floyd pitched one inning in relief. Despite finishing with nine hits compared to FIU’s six, the Bulldogs were unable to secure the win.

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the first inning with Marchant’s solo shot, but FIU tied the game in the third inning. Marchant’s double in the fifth inning gave Louisiana Tech a brief lead, but FIU responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. FIU added another run in the sixth to secure the victory.

This loss moves the Bulldogs to a record of 24-18 (10-7 CUSA). Laney Johnson, who made her 12th start of the season, took the loss and now has a record of 4-3. This game also marked Reagan Marchant’s 12th home run of the season and Alexis Gilio’s 11th multi-hit game. The Bulldogs will have the opportunity to bounce back in the series finale against FIU the following day at 12:00 p.m. CT.
