JMU Softball falls to Louisiana in series closer, 9-2


The James Madison Dukes softball team suffered a 9-2 loss to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in their Sun Belt Conference matchup on Sunday. The Dukes’ defense struggled, committing four errors that led to seven unearned runs for Louisiana. Gabbie Stutes led the Cajuns with a 2-for-3 performance and three RBI.

Reed Butler was a bright spot for the Dukes, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Mallory Wheeler earned the win for Louisiana, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on five hits.

Despite the loss, JMU’s Jasmine Hall is closing in on 100 career RBI, while Kylee Gleason is nearing 100 career hits. Lily Romero also tied a program record with her 10th runner caught stealing of the season.

The Dukes will look to bounce back in their next game as they aim to improve their 18-21 overall record and 5-10 conference record.
