Press Release: Bulldogs Swept by Hilltoppers in Weekend Doubleheader
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs suffered a disappointing doubleheader sweep against Western Kentucky on Sunday, falling to the Hilltoppers 5-4 in the first game and a staggering 22-12 in the series finale at Nick Denes Field.
This doubleheader marked a historic low for the Bulldogs, allowing 22 runs in the second game, the most they have conceded since 2012. The Bulldogs experienced their first weekend sweep of the season, reminiscent of their last conference road sweep in 2023 against Dallas Baptist.
In the first game, the Bulldogs struggled early, going scoreless in the first six innings despite a late-game rally that brought them to within one run. A seventh-inning effort included key contributions from Slade Netterville, Sebastian Mexico, and Garrison Berkley, but fell short as the Hilltoppers secured the win with a decisive strikeout.
The second game began on a high note for Tech, as they quickly built a 7-0 lead in the first inning with a series of strategic plays and aggressive hitting. However, the Hilltoppers responded with a stunning offensive display, scoring 12 runs in their half of the first inning alone. They continued to dominate, scoring 22 runs through the remainder of the game, effectively sealing the Bulldogs’ fate.
Despite a late two-run homer from Matt Houston in the seventh, it wasn’t enough to mitigate the loss. The Bulldogs will look to regroup as they head into their final road series of the regular season against Jacksonville State on May 9 at 6 p.m.
