Louisiana Couple Escapes Plane Crash in Their Parish

Miraculous Survival After Plane Crash in Kentwood

KENTWOOD, Louisiana (WDSU) — In a remarkable turn of events, a couple from Tangipahoa Parish narrowly escaped death following a plane crash just moments after takeoff from their private airstrip in Kentwood. Will and Missy Hammack, seasoned pilots, were in their 1976 Cessna when the aircraft nosedived into a wooded area behind their residence on Sunday afternoon.

Eyewitness Sandy Jones, a lifelong friend and neighbor of the Hammacks, witnessed the incident unfold. "It’s something you see on TV, but never expect to see in real life," he remarked after hearing the plane’s engine roar before the sudden descent. Jones rushed to the site, navigating dense woods for nearly 30 minutes to reach the wreckage, where he discovered both pilot and co-pilot alive but disoriented. Will Hammack suffered facial and rib injuries from the impact.

Emergency responders from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Kentwood Fire Department were quick to provide medical assistance. “Our primary focus was saving lives,” stated Tangipahoa Sheriff Gerald Sticker. An investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
