ULM Softball Prepares for Sun Belt Championship Quarterfinals
TROY, Ala. – The fourth-seeded ULM Warhawks are set to clash with fifth-seeded Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships. The matchup, which marks the 35th meeting between the two teams, will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Historically, ULM has a strong grip on the series with a 24-10 record against the Eagles, including a six-game win streak. The Warhawks aim to extend this streak after sweeping Georgia Southern twice this season, showcasing their dominance in recent matchups.
Georgia Southern, finishing the regular season with a record of 29-24 and placing fifth, seeks redemption after a recent series loss to James Madison, where they managed just one victory. Key players include Faith Barth, who leads the team in batting average and RBIs, and pitcher Maddie Johnson, celebrated for her impressive 2.03 ERA and multiple Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Warhawks are eager to continue their journey in the Sun Belt Championships, having a mixed postseason history. They’ve made 16 tournament appearances and seek to build on past successes, which last saw them reach the semifinals in 2019. ULM’s head coach, Molly Fichtner, has made history herself, being named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
Under her guidance, the Warhawks have achieved their best season in over 25 years, breaking numerous records including team batting average and total runs. The team features four All-Sun Belt selections, the highest number since joining the conference.
With a spot in the semifinals on the line, ULM is poised for an exciting showdown in Troy. The winner will advance to face Texas State, James Madison, or the host team, Troy, in the semifinal round.
