Southeastern Louisiana Drops NCAA Regional Game to No. 19 Nebraska
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team, the reigning two-time Southland Conference Tournament champions, faced a tough challenge in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, falling 14-1 to No. 19 Nebraska in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday at Tiger Park.
Southeastern, with an impressive season record of 49-15, will now play against the winner of the elimination game between No. 10 LSU and UConn, scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. As for Nebraska, they await the final team standing in a regional championship match set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
The game kicked off with a dramatic start as Nebraska’s Hannah Camerzind launched a three-run home run in the first inning, giving the Huskers an early 3-0 lead. Southeastern fought back briefly when Shelby Morris walked and later scored from an RBI single by Cydnee Schneider, narrowing the gap to 3-1.
However, Nebraska soon dominated, with a slew of offensive runs beginning in the third inning. After loading the bases, they capitalized on a wild pitch and a grand slam by Ava Kuszak, pushing the score to 10-1. The top of the fourth saw more fireworks with back-to-back home runs from Jordy Bahl and Samantha Bland, leading to a decisive 14-1 outcome.
